Meet the Artists

Ausecuma Beats Read more +

Ausecuma Beats are more than just a band, they are a philosophy. Led by their fearless bandleader and master djembe player, Boubacar Gaye, the nine-strong ensemble demonstrate what can happen when a group of artists come together based on an idea. The idea of place and transplanting cultural heritage into a contemporary city.

The band showcases what happens when people from the farthest flung corners of the world find themselves living shoulder to shoulder in a new environment. Nine unique individuals, each masters of their own craft and with their own personal histories, working together to create something exciting. Ausecuma Beats is the sound of our community.

Colette Read more +

Colette is a DJ with intrinsic musical taste, derived from her Cape Town ancestry and a lifetime of involvement in the thriving hotbed that is the Melbourne music community. Her selections traverse Funk, R&B, Hip Hop, Jazz and all shades of dance music. She emerged in 2015 as the DJ Melbourne didn’t know it needed, fast becoming an important mainstay of the local scene, regularly featuring at weekly parties Azure Nights, Lost Weekend, Mellowdias Thump, and most recently her own, The Vinyl Frontier.

Colette first appeared at the impeccably curated Inner Varnika Festival in 2017 and has previously secured local support roles for touring artists such as Noname, The Internet, Mr Scruff and Throwing Shade.

Soul & Storm Read more +

Judex Rose and Sandra De Reland are a versatile guitar/vocal duo with roots from Mauritius.

A Mauritian-born vocalist now based in Melbourne, Sandra grew up in a musical family encouraging her immersive journey into Latin sounds, jazz, pop, soul, funk, French and creole music. She can do it all with ‘je ne sais quoi’ that makes her interpretation of songs very personal.

Judex Rose is a Mauritian music composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Melbourne. His sound is influenced by his island heritage; merging jazz harmonies with a blend of African and Indian rhythms. The son of a musician, he grew up surrounded by jazz and has since carved his own style within the genre, sitting somewhere between jazz, reggae and dancehall.

Favourites at Republica St Kilda, the African Festival, Melbourne Music week and Melbourne’s top bars and restaurants, Soul and Storm charm the audience with synergy, energy, nostalgia and positive vibes.
